Harkness Park News

Pictured above is Kippy Irwin, next to the four-variety (grafted) apple tree she and Ethan Bradford planted with funds from friends of Randy Harkness.  Kippy’s the permaculturist we turn to for the park plan (and she’s doing the lion’s share of the work, too).  She says:

I'm honored and excited to be a part of Harkness Park’s design and establishment. I think this is going to be a wonderful demonstration of beauty, abundance, functionality and, most importantly, sustainability for our community to enjoy for many years to come. If anyone has drought tolerant ground covers, grasses or evergreen shrubs they would like to share with the park, please let us know. Thank you!

Thank you to the community for plant donations this month: Patricia Stordeur - flowering currants, Kippy Irwin - Indian plum and dwarf dogwood, Rebecca Loeb - yucca roots, friends of Randy Harkness – apple tree and flowering currant, Hillary - branches used to define the walkways through the garden.

And here are Doris Harkness and her daughter Cynthia (Harkness) Howard next to the new Harkness Park sign, kindly provided by Erin Wilson.

If you’d like to contribute to the park, please see our previous post for how to contact us and what we’d love to see added!
