Harkness Park (located just south of 125th on Ashworth) update:
You may have noticed an amazing new addition to Harkness Park last month, a beautiful cypress slab wood bench. A gift from Ann Sutherland, Carol Webster and Richard Knudson in loving memory of their parents Bob and Sybil Knudson who were longtime residents of Haller Lake. Sybil and her dear friends, Doris Harkness (who the park is named after) and Barbara Gross were very involved in Haller Lake’s public places. Three strong and thoughtful women who really made a difference.
Noah Kriegsmann and Conan Storlie from NK Build are family friends, who found the slab, created it and placed their work of art/bench in the park for all to enjoy. NK Build (founded in 2006) creates custom furniture from reclaimed wood and steel, salvaged, and sustainably sourced materials. More visuals, including past projects, can be seen at nkbuild on Instagram, and soon on the updated www.nkbuild.com, which will be online by September.
On behalf of Haller Lake and Harkness Park THANK YOU SO MUCH Ann, Carol, Richard, Noah and Conan for the lovely gift. It will be treasured for many years to come.
We would also like to thank those who have donated to the park this summer:
Ryan and Demetra Dennis for the fig
Conner Fling for thimbleberry and signs
William Woodruff for water and putting up the trellis
Debbie Nakano for all the red tulips
Santos, Magdalena, Alex and Camila De La Rosa Sanchez for signs
Rachel Van Noord and Ben Peterson for huckleberries and strawberries
Mary Newbill the currant
Luke for cleaning the walk
Ann Sutherland for Service Berry and Choke Cherry
Kippy Irwin for banana plant, kiwi plants, trellis
And all those that helped with watering and cleaning up at the park!!!
A reminder that we have arborist woodchips at the north side of the park for the neighborhood to try. Please come and pick up a bucket or wheelbarrow full for your landscape. These chips are a wonderful way to help build a healthier environment for your yard. Thank you for trying them.
Debbie, Kippy and Ann
