Transit-Oriented-Development (TOD) Picks Up Speed in Northgate

This piece was recently published in Council President Juarez's weekly newsletter and wanted to share:

Our office has been working with Sound Transit, King County Council and our state delegation to shepherding this project forward since 2018.I recently met with Chris Persons and Donna Moodie of Community Roots Housing, who have been great champions of Transit Oriented Developement (TOD).  The Urbanist has reported that an affordable housing project next to Northgate Station has taken an important step forward - submitting a land-use application to the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI).

Bridge Housing and Community Roots are collaborating to produce 232 homes on a piece of property owned by King County, also known as the old Northgate Park-and-Ride lot. Community Roots Housing will operate the building once it opens. In addition to providing land, King County contributed $20 million to help finance the affordable housing project.

King County Metro has made it clear that its intention is to keep most of the surface parking spots available until the Lynnwood Link extension opens, which is expected in 2024.

The design review recommendation meeting hasn’t been scheduled yet.
