May Community Meeting: Lakeside School

Written by Celia Matson, HLCC Treasurer

Our presenter for this meeting was Johnpaul McLean, Assistant Director of Admissions and Outreach at Lakeside School, which anchors the NE corner of the Haller Lake neighborhood.   Lakeside consists of the upper school campus (1st Ave and 145th) and the middle school 2 blocks south on 1st Ave, on the site of the original Haller Lake Middle School.   The school was founded in 1919.

An interesting slideshow of the history/archives section of the Lakeside website provided  context for questions from the audience (live and on Zoom).    Topics of interest were admissions policies.

Opportunities for interaction with the community were identified e.g. service learning and participating in community events.   Community members are invited to use the track (in off hours), watch sporting events, and even arts events.    Johnpaul will be the contact person to direct us to appropriate staff at Lakeside for specific questions.    We were encouraged to prowl around the website which is extensive: https://www.lakesideschool.org/about-us/history-archives. Lake Side Recently celebrated it's 100 year anniversary!

A recording of the entire presentation is available on our youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smwpAwzaolY&t=6s
