Harkness Park Fall Update
Harkness Park has seen a lot of change over the past 6 mos. A couple fruit trees have been planted, one apple (donated by friends of Randy Harkness) and a fig tree (donated by Sewa Khalsa). In addition, lots of plants are scattered around the park (largely thanks to Kippy Irwin); two new garden areas: spiral and rock garden have been donated to the park (by Kippy, Jeremy Whalen and Melissa Petersen). Keeping all the plants watered has been a major challenge but we are happy to report that most have survived (sorry Sewa, the squash didn’t work out). Other garden areas are marked by branches and logs to establish boundaries. Please watch your step.
With Fall upon us, it doesn’t look like we’ll have to water much, so our focused will move to clean up mode, removing weeds we didn’t have much time to work on, finish spreading wood chips and hopefully add a few more plants in the new rock garden. One of our neighbors has offered to build a compost bin, so that will be coming soon.
If you have time and would like to help, please reach out to Kippy or myself, we always appreciate the help. We need help weeding, spreading chips, and blowing or sweeping off the path. If working in the park isn’t possible but you’d like to donate something other than your time, we are always looking for perennials, small native shrubs, or herbs for the spiral garden. This time of year, mums are always nice and add color.
As always, THANK YOU to all who have donated to our little pocket park. We and your neighbors appreciate it!!!
I ate a blueberry. It was delicious! I figured it was o.k. because I helped plant the bush.
