Northgate School Update
It’ll be a tight squeeze around Northgate School this year and next. The old building, eventually to be demolished, plus portables will suffice until opening James Baldwin in fall 2023. I’m told the new building can accommodate 600 students. That’s a mega grade school in my book. But between now and then, there will be parking issues for staff and visitors, a condensed play space for recess and lots of noise during construction.
As for safety and COVID-19, students and staff will put in full days starting September 1st wearing masks with three feet of distance between pupils. The matter of lunchtime for students is a talking point as we speak; Northgate has a cafeteria but there’s been talk of eating outside. And this: Seattle Schools will provide free lunches and breakfasts to all students, all schools.
Congratulations to Principal DeDe for earning her PhD in Education. Well done Dr. Fauntleroy!
My role as a 3rd grade volunteer teaching science with Ms Kopiloff is muddled at the moment. As with last spring, volunteers were told to stay home.
