Pop-Up Blood Drive!
On April 25th and 26th HLCC was transformed into a blood donation facility run by Bloodworks Northwest (BWNW). Due to COVID, BWNW has been experiencing a blood shortage. 75% of the blood types are below operational level, which is a four day supply (YIKES!). In total, the event resulted in:
- 95 Registered Donors
- 9 First Time Donors
- 84 units of blood were collected!
All appointments were booked solid. Thank you to all who donated their time and blood to make the event a success. This is a huge impact and help to many patients in the Pacific Northwest!
Hosting a blood drive at HLCC is reminiscent of HLCC's past. During the second World War years, the basement of HLCC became the local base hospital where cots, mattresses and essential first aid equipment were stored. It also became the center for activities for the Red Cross sewing and first-aid classes. Special thank you's go to: Wendy Chu of BWNW who coordinated the event, Ethan Bradford and Celia Matson of the HLCC Board and Darcelle who kindly cleaned the space free of charge after the event. Darcelle kindly said, "it was her contribution to the cause".
Donors: Since you can donate every 56 days, that means the donors who gave at the event will be eligible to donate again by June 21st.
