Friends of Harkness Park (Ashworth south of 125th) update

Our little pocket park on Ashworth (Harkness Park) is coming along nicely, as many of you may have noticed while walking through the park. We are making good headway on our wood chip project, though we could really use more cardboard if you have some slightly larger pieces to spare. If so, please drop them off at the park behind the bench. Now that Fall is here, we have started putting in some plants that should look great next spring. If you have any plants you would like to to donate, please contact us.

If you are an artist or have woodworking skills and would like to donate your services, that would be great! We would like a sign or two saying "Harkness Park" (one at both entrances or a larger one in the middle of the park), a tiny library, or artwork (like art or peace poles or anything else that would add color for these long winter months ahead). Any help is greatly appreciated by us as well as your neighbors. If you have any ideas or suggestions, let us know.

If you would like to get involved, we would love to have you join our group of Haller Lake Neighbors. You don’t have to have a green thumb to do so. To stay connected please join our email group. Either email friends-of-harkness-park+subscribe@googlegroups.com or go to https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/friends-of-harkness-park/join. We are also on Nextdoor under Friends of Harkness Park. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Ethan Bradford (secretary@HallerLakeCommuntyClub.org) or myself (debtho@outlook.com).

Thank you to all the volunteers and to the neighbors offering thanks and words of encouragement as they walk by.

Come by and get your hands dirty-it’s fun!

  1. FYI we've had a great response for more cardboard recently so I think we are good for now. Thanks everyone.

  2. I may have some plants to donate. Do you have any specific types that you are wanting to plant?

  3. Great! Natives, perennial edible plants and drought tolerant perennial plants and shrubs. If you have some to give, you can drop them at the park or I’m happy to pick them up. Thank you!
