Haller Lake participates in the BLM silent march
On Friday, June 12 at 1pm we gathered at Burke and 122nd to silent march around the lake in honor of Black Lives Matter. This all in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis. Around the country and through Seattle-King County grass-roots marches took place in cities, towns and neighborhoods. Haller Lake did its part. On a blustery rainy day perhaps 50-100 people marched ages 1 to 94. I know the oldest one, my mother Doris Harkness. We all walked COVID-19 style wearing our masks and maintaining a space of six feet. Some carried signs around the theme Black Lives Matter and all kept a solemn silence. I’m sure the Club was well represented given it was a weekday. Wearing masks made recognition difficult. A group of parents and children from Hazel Wolf school stood stock still holding their homemade signs for all to read. It was a time for pause, reflection, and individually assessing the current issues of our time.
